The second annual event for hard-body cars takes place at the Corby Slot Racing Centre on the BSCRA ‘Monsta’ Track – 8 Lanes and 50 metre lap length.

Three classes will be contested – for Formula 1 cars, Scalextric BTCC cars,  and for modern Sports Cars. The details are clearly set out below and, as you will read, they are quite light on regulation.

This is deliberate. The National Centre is a proving ground for the most highly developed BSCRA-style slot cars and we hope to encourage similar cutting-edge thinking with this event. This is the main reason for not racing GT3 cars – which have many opportunities to race at the highest level in this category of our sport.

Entry Fees will be £10 per class (£8 for BSCRA Members) in advance via the booking page when live. Pay on the day will be £15 per class. Under 16s (ie anyone up to 15 years old) will pay £5 per class.

The timetable is as follows (subject to confirmation depending upon entry).

Friday – thorough track clean – no racing or practice, but track will be run in to test surface)

Saturday 14th August – Doors open 8am, Practice 0815-1115 F1 ONLY, F 1 Event  - F 1 Scrutineering (and BTCC Only Practice) 1100 -1145, Qualifying 1200-1300 (Individual runs of 1 minute, total laps to count), Racing 1315 – 4 x 3 minute seeded segmented heats. Half Track System. Win from any heat.

Scalextric Event – 1530 approx. Scalextric Practice (10 x 3 minute sessions). Scrutineering approx. 1600-1630, Qualifying based on F1 Result plus additional drivers seeded in alphabetical order in lower heats. Racing 1630 to 1830 approx. 4 x 3 minute heats, (Half Track System) win from any heat.   

Sunday 15th August – Doors open 8am, Practice 0830 – 1130 – Sports Cars Only, Sports Event - Scrutineering 1130-1230, Qualifying 1245 (Individual runs of 1 minute, fastest lap to count), Racing 1400 – 8 x 3 minute seeded segmented heats. Win from any heat.    

Rules

Formula 1

Cars – any Formula 1 car from the inception of F1 in 1950.

What is specifically allowed? Any commercially available* body and chassis, any running gear, guide, braid. Long can motors up to 25k, S-Can up to 32k. Short can motors are not allowed as their specifications can be difficult to verify.  High Mag motors such as BRM are allowed as there is no magnetic effect on the track.

Tyres must be black rubber – no urethane and no silicon, or sponge.

Wheels no restriction, gears no restriction.

Racing numbers (2 min) and driver must be present as must an interior that conceals the chassis and parts from above. The interior can be lightweight but must include a driver with steering wheel detail and must be painted.

Scalextric - cars are basically BTCC cars – a list of eligible models is below.

Others may be added as they are produced.

Cars may only be modified as follows:

Guide and braids may be changed as may motor leads to suit. Modifying the chassis to allow insertion of guide plates or other modifications is not allowed. Rear tyres may be replaced with rubber tyres and trued. Silicon, Urethane and Sponge are NOT ALLOWED.

Ballast may be added but must not be visible from the outside of the car.

Chassis magnets may remain as ballast – they have no effect on this track.

Interiors must be standard, as fitted to the original factory-supplied model.

Lighting rigs may be omitted but lenses must be in place as originally fitted.

Sports

Cars – any post 1995 Sports Car that has raced. This will include some GT1 cars, LMP1 & 2 and Hybrid/hypercars. Cars normally raced in GT3/GTE events are not allowed.

Wheels no restriction, gears no restriction. Wheels must not protrude beyond the width of the body, viewed from above.

Maximum width of track (outer edge of tyre to outer edge of opposite tyre) is 65mm.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 *Commercially available means 3D printed may be used if generally available to purchase from recognised sources

 Scratch-built or metal chassis are not permitted unless they are original as supplied with the body, such as Revo-Slot.

 ‘Rubber tyres’ does not include sponge rubber.

 Chassis Magnets are allowed, there is no magnatraction and they can act as weight.

Summary

Whilst you may consider these rules to be very simple – and they are – the idea is to generate as much development and experimentation as possible whilst giving newer drivers a chance to join in whilst we all take on this Challenge – the second on this amazing track.

We are hoping to have some impressive sponsorship from all the H/B suppliers and there will be trophies for all three classes. There may also be trophies or prizes for ‘unmodified’ cars, depending upon the scrutineering possibilities and sponsorship as well as Junior and Novice prizes.
